Think of hypnotherapy as a key that unlocks a new dimension of your mind, allowing you to delve into the deeper layers of your subconscious. It’s a therapeutic approach that uses focused attention and deep relaxation to access and address underlying thoughts and emotions.
Hypnosis can occur naturally when someone becomes deeply absorbed in an activity, much like daydreaming. These hypnotic-like states may happen regularly for some people. It's important to note that hypnosis is not the same as sleep. While under hypnosis, you remain conscious and retain control over your mind and emotions. Contrary to popular misconceptions, you remain fully conscious and in control throughout the process. In fact, hypnosis can even strengthen your awareness. During hypnosis, people often experience a profound sense of relaxation. Sometimes accompanied by feelings of peace, comfort, and security, or a sensation of lightness or floating. What makes hypnosis particularly appealing is its natural and safe nature
Hypnotherapy simply helps you tap into your subconscious to explore and resolve issues that may be affecting your thoughts and behaviours. Try our hypnotherapy service in Marrickville to find out the transformative power of hypnosis!
A meta-analysis involving over 600 studies and 72,000 participants found that hypnotherapy was over three times as effective as nicotine replacement methods and 15 times as effective as attempting to quit smoking without assistance
Hypnotherapy involves guiding you into a focused, trance-like state through effective communication techniques. This state of heightened concentration allows access to the subconscious mind, where deep-seated thoughts and emotions reside.
By combining hypnotherapy with these and other modalities, you can achieve a stronger outcom bypassing the limitations of the conscious mind. This means transforming your internal responses and behaviours not just through logical understanding, but through deeper emotional and cognitive shifts.
The Role of the Hypnotherapist
A hypnotherapist’s role is to collaborate with you, guiding you into a state where your subconscious can be accessed and worked with effectively. This partnership is crucial for facilitating personal transformation and discovering solutions tailored to your needs. The therapeutic relationship between you and the hypnotherapist is central to the healing process, built on trust and comfort.
Understanding the Trance State
The trance state in hypnotherapy is a natural and familiar experience. It’s akin to being deeply engrossed in a book or daydreaming. In this state, you may feel more focused, relaxed, and in control, which facilitates a deeper exploration of your thoughts, beliefs, and feelings. Hypnotherapy leverages this state to address underlying issues and promote lasting change.
Integration with Other Therapies
Hypnotherapy can be seamlessly integrated with various other therapeutic approaches to enhance overall treatment effectiveness. Such as schema therapy, acceptance & commitment therapy, and cognitive behavioural therapy.
By combining hypnotherapy with these and other modalities, you can achieve a stronger outcome.
Access to Subconscious Processes
Hypnotherapy allows you to tap into the subconscious mind, where deep-seated beliefs and patterns reside.
Change and Stuck Points
It enables you to revisit and modify learnt beliefs and behaviours, facilitating personal growth and transformation.
Mental Rehearsal
You can mentally rehearse situations where you lack confidence, helping you build resilience and preparedness.
Creative Solutions
Access to your subconscious mind opens the door to creative and innovative solutions to challenges you face.
Reduction of Unhelpful Automatic Processes
Hypnotherapy helps in reducing automatic, unhelpful subconscious processes that might be holding you back.
Emotion Management
It empowers you to better manage and regulate your emotions, leading to improved emotional well-being.
Enhanced Self Efficacy
By fostering a stronger sense of control over your thoughts and actions, hypnotherapy helps you develop a better sense of self-efficacy and personal empowerment.

Recent studies show that hypnotherapy significantly improves IBS symptoms. One study found that 71% of participants experienced substantial improvement, with effects lasting up to five years. Another study from the Netherlands showed that hypnotherapy could relieve IBS symptoms for as long as nine months for a large portion of patients.
A study published in BMC Psychiatry found that hypnotherapy can help manage conditions like trichotillomania (hair-pulling) by addressing underlying stress and anxiety and promoting behaviour modification. The study reported significant reductions in repetitive behaviours.
A recent review of studies in 2018 found that hypnosis can be an effective way to reduce depression symptoms. After treatment, people who received hypnosis showed more improvement than about 76% of participants.

If you're concerned about your susceptibility to hypnosis, there's no need to worry. I use various techniques and tools to guide you into the optimal state for hypnotherapy. You don’t need to enter a deep trance for hypnotherapy to have a positive impact on your life.
That's completely up to you. Some see benefits after two session, some may need 6. It depends on your unique needs and the way you respond.
Yes, you will be in complete control the whole time. You can snap out of a hypnotic state instantly. It feels like a deep meditation, or similar to the feeling when you are about to sleep or just as you are waking up.
That is common. If you are able to relax enough to fall asleep during the session then you are relaxed and feeling safe. Your subconscious mind will be listening to the prompts and I will wake you up calmly at the end.
A frequent misunderstanding about hypnosis is the idea that someone might claim that they are too analytical for hypnosis. Hypnosis happens because you decides to allow it. Those who are analytical can have effective outcomes as long as they are genuinely invested in the process.
