If you receive a Mental Health Care Plan from your GP you are entitled to a Medicare rebate of $85.20 per session for 10 sessions per calendar year. This reduces the out of pocket fee to approximately $104.80.
The length of time it takes to see results from counselling sessions varies depending on the individual and the issues being addressed. Some clients may see improvements after just a few sessions, while others may require longer-term therapy. You are free to cease therapy at any time with no judgement.
No, you do not need a referral if you are happy to pay the private fee. To receive a reduced rate you can access services with a Mental Health Care Plan (MHCP) or Eating Disorders Plan (EDP) from your GP.

Registered Psychologists undergo a four-year undergraduate program in psychology and then engage in two years of supervised practice. This educational and practical training timeframe is comparable to that of an Accredited Mental Health Social Worker.
Accredited Mental Health Social Workers study sociology alongside psychology. Unlike psychologists, they do not make diagnoses, they treat and assess. AMHSW's view mental health problems as an understandable response to a combination of impacting factors influencing the individual. We often consider the impact of cultural, systemic, economic, institutional, environmental and biological factors.
Chapter One Counselling provides therapeutic services for adolescents and adults.
Therapy sessions last for 50 minutes. The frequency and duration of sessions will depend on your individual needs and treatment plan.
Yes, confidentiality is a fundamental part of my practice. All your personal information and the details of your sessions are kept confidential, except in cases where there is a risk of harm to yourself or others, as required by law.
If you need to cancel or reschedule your appointment, please notify me at least 48 hours in advance to avoid any cancellation fees. This allows me to offer the slot to another client who may need it.
